Solar Energy in Fiji Helps us Provide for You and Our Island

We’ve always had a vision of making the island 100% sustainable. In 2013 this dream become a reality with the installation of our solar farm. In early 2012, construction work began on the $1.5M solar project, making Turtle Island one of the first ever clean energy resorts in the world. After months of hard work, we flipped the switch and 968 solar panels are now providing 100% of the power needs on the island. Even on rainy or cloudy days, the backup generator reduces the total solar power to about 85%, maintaining outstanding energy efficiency.

The new solar installation produces 1.2 megawatts of power a day and allows us to reduce our carbon footprint by saving 220 tons of green house emissions and 85,000 litres of diesel per year. This reduces our annual diesel costs by $250,000, a 90% reduction.

Be sure to request a tour of our Solar Power farm when you arrive at Turtle Island. We’d be thrilled to share our “farm of light” with you.
